Step 2: Data Collection

The PNQIN Perinatal Opioid project includes activities to address substance use across the life course, including but not limited to: prenatal identification and care; the Eat, Sleep, Console care method for substance-exposed newborns; and promoting family engagement connection to social and community support services (i.e. early intervention) (the main project site can be reviewed HERE).

We will be hosting bi-annual statewide summits and poster sessions along with monthly OUD collaborative webinars. As part of this project, you will be asked to complete a provider attitude survey on OUD and perform data reporting related to OUD in pregnancy.

AIM OUD implementation also includes the collection of additional structure and process measures on maternal health outcomes, a focus on reduction of severe maternal morbidity, and AIM OUD Bundle components. To participate, we require the following:

  1. Complete Data Use Agreements with ACOG, the Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety, and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as necessary.

  2. Complete the AIM Baseline Survey. This should be done by your AIM OUD Lead in collaboration with appropriate hospital leadership and the AIM Champion.

    1. This survey will also contain a brief readiness assessment tool (a modified version of the AHRQ Informal Checklist for Assessing Practice). The purpose of this readiness assessment is to determine each hospital’s capacity to launch OUD bundle work.

  3. Complete the AIM OUD Structural Measure Survey. This should also be done by your AIM OUD Lead.

  4. Review the PNQIN Maternal Opioid Use QI Data Collection Form. This should be done by your team, following by a discussion about data collection opportunities including bedside, EMR queries, chart review, pharmacy reports, etc.

Step 3: Team Connection

  1. Connect your AIM Champions and AIM OUD Lead with your hospital's broader PNQIN Perinatal Opioid Project team, if applicable.

    1. Our colleagues with NeoQIC, Dr. Munish Gupta and project manager, Mary Houghton, will help you to connect with these team members via e-mail. Dr. Gupta and Mary will also let you know what project activities your hospital is already engaged related to the PNQIN Perinatal Opioid Project.

Step 4: SMM Data

  1. Your AIM OUD Lead should review the contacts we have for your hospital's OB Chair/Chief and Quality Improvement Director for your hospital (these contacts will be e-mailed once you reach Step 4). These individuals will receive the severe maternal morbidity data profile for your hospital from the Betsy Lehman Center. Please reply to PNQIN (pnwinadmin@pnqinma.org) with any updates or if a different administrator should receive the data.
